Osprey v2.4: A Stronger PI System Data Foundation
Unified OT Trust for PI
Product Release
Overview
Osprey v2.4 brings OT data lineage, complete source to destination OT data audit trail and data quality into one connected workflow. Teams can see where operational data comes from and where it is used, what changed, and whether the data is healthy. This helps engineers work more efficiently, strengthen their operational data foundation, and reduce data disruptions before they affect users and downstream applications.
A value in a PI Vision display can look fine and still be wrong. A source tag may be stale, an upstream calculation may have changed, or the value may depend on data that is no longer behaving as expected.
The system provides deep support for the PI ecosystem while extending traceability across heterogeneous OT and IT environments, from PLC and SCADA sources to historians, cloud platforms, analytics, and AI.
What’s new?
OT Lineage Explorer: Enhanced UI that supports viewing metadata on data elements such as PI Tags or AF Attributes and indirect Element Relative relationships.
Scout Advisor: Ask questions about tags, assets, analyses, and dependencies to understand calculations and investigate data issues faster.
Audit Trail Explorer: Compare revisions, view historical lineage, and capture the reason for changes. Quickly remediate using direct export to PI Builder.
Data Quality Monitor: Automation now to set alarm thresholds for stale, out-of-range, data density checks, track data quality over time.
Scout Lens for PI Vision: Embed trust directly into the workflows of PI Vision users allowing them to self-service, understand underlying calculations, tag sources, and escalate issues to proper PI owners.
AF Analysis Auto-Recovery: Automatically identify PI AF analyses affected by recovered or backfilled source data and backfill recalculated data automatically during the impacted time period.

One View of Operational Data Trust
OT Lineage Explorer
Understanding PI tag usage is difficult when data flows across tags, AF attributes, analyses, PI Vision displays, multiple networks, and downstream systems. OT Lineage Explorer automatically maps these relationships in an easy-to-navigate visual interface, so engineers can quickly see where data comes from, where it is used, and what may be affected by a change.
This reduces manual tracing during troubleshooting, historian migrations, and tag rationalization. Once an issue is discovered via Data Quality Monitor, engineers can follow the data path from PLC and SCADA sources through PI Data Archive and Asset Framework into downstream consumers.
Configure the information shown
Users can configure metadata directly on objects so important information is visible without opening each asset. For instance, users can now see calculation runtimes to identify bottlenecks, timestamp of last value to identify data availability gaps, and last modified dates to identify impact of changes. Osprey now shows Element Relative relationships through AF elements and attributes when engineers need to investigate indirect dependencies across PI Vision displays.
Trace data beyond PI
In many cases, PI is often the center of the operational data environment, but it is not always the end of the data path. Osprey now extends traceability into AVEVA CONNECT, so teams can follow operational data as it moves into other platforms and applications.
Scout Advisor
Scout Advisor lets engineers ask questions about an asset, tag, analysis, or dependency. Users can understand the purpose of a complex analysis, investigate potential causes of data availability problems, and explore dependencies using the information already available in Osprey.
Audit Trail Explorer
OT configuration changes over time. Tag settings, AF templates, calculations, and displays are modified, but the reason behind those changes is often spread across tickets, email, or individual engineers.
Audit Trail Explorer automatically captures configuration changes and surfaces them in Audit Trail Review, giving engineers one place to monitor recent changes across the entire OT environment. Teams can identify what changed, compare revisions, understand affected dependencies, and investigate issues before they lead to extended data disruptions.
See exactly what changed
Inline comparisons show the difference between current and previous versions. Engineers can also compare lineage at different points in time to understand how dependencies changed around a migration, maintenance activity, or incident.
Capture why the change was made
A timestamp tells you when something changed, but not why. Osprey lets teams add a reason to a change and review multiple changes in bulk, helping ensure change integrity and preserve reasoning that might otherwise remain in email, tickets, or tribal knowledge.
Recover faster with PI Builder export
Osprey can export supported historical configurations into PI Builder format. Engineers can validate a previous configuration and use it to recover faster, reducing troubleshooting time and the duration of data disruptions.
Data Quality Monitor
Process data does not always fail with a bad status. A PI tag, AF attribute, or analysis output can continue producing values even when its behavior has changed. Data Quality Monitor continuously checks for these changes so teams can identify potential data quality issues before they affect calculations, displays, analytics, or other downstream uses.
Detect changes in data behavior
Osprey identifies conditions such as stale data, out-of-range values, anomalous event counts, and other unexpected changes in behavior. Teams can override thresholds in bulk when process-specific limits are required.
Track PI System data quality over time
A data quality issue tells you what is happening now. Historical scores show whether the environment is improving or deteriorating. Osprey tracks data quality scores over time so teams can measure the effect of cleanup work, migrations, maintenance, and other changes to the PI System.
AF Analysis Recovery
A data disruption does not always end when the tag data gets backfilled. If missing PI tag data is recovered or backfilled, downstream analyses may still need to be recalculated before calculated values are complete again.
Analysis Auto-Recovery identifies analyses affected by recovered source data and recalculates the impacted time period. Initial support includes PI AF Analyses, helping teams restore derived values faster and reduce the manual work required after data outages or backfills.
Scout Lens for PI Vision
PI Vision users should not need to open multiple tools or call the PI support team every time a value looks wrong.
The Osprey Trust Badge brings data quality, lineage, and audit context directly into PI Vision. Users can see issues affecting the tags and AF attributes behind a display, review upstream dependencies and calculations, and identify relevant configuration changes.
A changing value does not always mean the underlying data is healthy. A calculation may continue to update while one of its source tags is stale or behaving unexpectedly.
The Trust Badge helps users identify these issues immediately and escalate them directly to the appropriate PI owner. This enables more self-service investigation while giving support teams better context when an issue does need to be escalated.
A Stronger Data Foundation for Operations and AI
PI System data increasingly feeds cloud platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake, digital twins, analytics, copilots, and AI applications. The reliability of those applications depends on the operational data underneath them.
Osprey carries lineage, audit history, and data quality context from OT sources through PI and into downstream platforms. Teams can understand where data came from, what changed, and whether it was healthy.
For AI, this provides something increasingly important: provenance. Teams can trace the operational data behind an answer and validate whether that data should be trusted.
The result is a stronger operational data foundation, less engineering effort, fewer data disruptions, and better AI readiness.
